Fireproof file cabinets can be a great choice if you have a large budget and wish to protect your important documents in the event of a blaze. Fire can be a catastrophe and destroy your most precious items and belongings especially if you have crucially important documents such as a will or title deeds; you may want to protect it with a fireproof file cabinet.
If you have important documents to protect, you’re probably considering a fire proof file cabinet which will protect your files and papers in the event of a large blaze. The different models would offer different degrees of protection against fire and the amount of time it can withstand the heat before crumbling. The time it takes for the cabinet to disintegrate would determine its strength and value as a fireproof file cabinet.
Fireproof file cabinets earn their reputation a being able to withstand heat up to at least 2250 degree on the insides without causing the contents to burn and disintegrate. The amount of period it can keep the contents safe varies from one model to another. The fireproof cabinet can protect its content form coming in contact with the burning flames. Most manufacture will be happy to refer to these units as being fire resistant instead of the often controversial term fireproof as this tends to describe the cabinet more accurately.
There is a special layer of material that prevents the content of the safe from coming into contact with the fire. Basically it utilizes two layers of composite material that sandwich the flames and the moisture produced by the heat so the contents inside stays safe. The steam produced by the composite material should be released into the atmosphere. This basically means that the safe is not air tight at all.
The duration of time each cabinet can provide protection against the heat before disintegrating varies from a single hour, half an hour or even more. The maximum number of hours that many stages can withstand fire would be three hours. This gives you ample time to call in the fire department and extinguish the fire within that duration of time which saves you valuable documents inside. Therefore, it is important that you realize the amount of time you have and the distance between your place and the fire department.
When the time is up, the safe would no longer provide the necessary protection against the roaring blaze and the contents would start to disintegrate. This happens when the composite runs out of the materials to produce the steam necessary to regulate the temperature to protect the contents. The steam would run out and the safe would no longer be resistant to the flames and the high temperature.
